This is part of a series of tips for web maintainers. The Web Team posts hints and tips about the CMS, MyIUP, IUP Mobile, and the interactive map each week.
You may have noticed that making quicklinks got a little easier lately. You no longer need to click away from the alias when creating a quicklink. The /WorkArea/ choice is already selected.
When linking to any page that uses an “alias” (or “friendly URL,” such as www.iup.edu/web/news), you will always see an Insert Quicklink box.
Previously, you needed to manually move the choice from the alias to the /WorkArea/ option. No longer! This is now pre-selected for you—anytime this box appears, all you have to do is click “OK.”
Making quicklinks is easy, and quicklinks will always work even if a page’s alias changes (which would break an ordinary hyperlink). Here are step-by-step instructions on
how to make quicklinks.
Please remember: Never type nor copy and paste an IUP web address when making a link. Always use the quicklink process to ensure your links will never break.
