The arts-in-education program of the Lively Arts, ArtsPath, is pleased
to announce that it will hold its regional competition for the Poetry Out Loud
national recitation competition on Wednesday, January 25, 2017, at 6:30
p.m. in the Grand Balcony of the IUP Performing Arts Center.
The regional competition is the culmination of classroom and school-level competitions at participating high schools throughout the five-county ArtsPath service region, to include Armstrong, Butler, Clarion, Indiana, and Jefferson counties.
Each school’s champion competes at IUP for the opportunity to advance to the state competition, hosted by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts in Harrisburg at the State Museum of Pennsylvania on Monday, March 6, 2017.
The state winner will represent Pennsylvania in the national competition in Washington, D.C. on April 24–26, with all state winners competing for $20,000 in scholarships and prizes.
Now in its 12th year, this popular and exceptional program is sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation. More information on POL, as well as a list of previous ArtsPath regional and state champions, may be found on the POL page of the ArtsPath website.
Parents and students interested in participating should contact the students’ high school English teacher, as well as ArtsPath at firstname.lastname@example.org, or call Jeff Wacker at 724-357-4565.
