Reminder: Ambassador of Mali to Discuss International Security Issues, April 12

Ambassador of Mali to the United States

His Excellency Tiena Coulibaly, the ambassador of Mali to the United States, will visit IUP on Wednesday, April 12, 2017. That evening, he will give a presentation titled “West and Central Africa at the Crossroads of Global Security Challenges.” 

The lecture will take place in Room B-11 of the Humanities and Social Sciences Building from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. 

The ambassador will address how local rebels and international networks like Al Qaeda and ISIS are causing security challenges in the Sahel region (just south of the Sahara), particularly after the fall of Libya’s dictator Muammar Gaddafi. He will also discuss the interests of United States and European powers in that region, and how they are coordinating with African governments to address security issues.

The presentation is free and open to the public. Attendance vouchers will be provided.
