Chad Buckwalter, International Student and Scholar advisor, was one of eight panelists selected to present at the NAFSA Research Symposium 2017 held in Washington, D.C. His study, “Path to U.S. Higher Education: A Study of Chinese Students at Indiana University of Pennsylvania,” collected data on the varied ethnic backgrounds of the Chinese student population at IUP and sought to determine if ethnicity was a factor in the students’ educational opportunities and decisions.

Buckwalter plans to continue his study at IUP through the spring and fall 2017 terms.

Founded in 1948, the National Association of Foreign Student Advisors is the largest association for professionals who work in fields relating to international higher education. NAFSA held its second Research Symposium—A Critical Discussion of Theories, Methodologies, and Practices in International Education—on April 7, 2017. Bringing together researchers and scholars in the field of international education and related disciplines, the Research Symposium provides an opportunity to share this work in an academic and professional environment, as well as participate in a critical discussion of the theories, methodologies, and practices being used in the research.

Presenter information and abstracts can be found on NAFSA’s Research Symposium webpage.
