Susan Dawkins, Developmental Studies instructor, and Maureen K. Porter of the University of Pittsburgh co-authored “Children of Shangri-Lost”
for the September issue of the Journal of Folklore and Education, available
on the Local Learning Network website at.
In this article, Porter and Dawkins discuss the programming and outreach efforts of Children of Shangri-Lost, a non-profit organization formed by Bhutanese refugee youth in Pittsburgh. This organization uses various media forms that counter deficit discourses,
engage and educate local communities, and provide first-person accounts of resilience and intercultural dialogue.
