With the support of the Sustainability Studies Program, a group of students in Yvonne Branan’s Introduction to Sustainability Studies (SUST 201) class devised a proposal to help with media outreach and a “pay-it-forward” initiative for a newly opened sustainable restaurant in downtown Indiana.

Opened in April 2018, the Appalachian Kitchen uses farm-to-table ingredients, as well as a focus on reducing waste, reusing products, and recycling materials. The “pay-it-forward” initiative is done by purchasing meals for individuals with financial need throughout the Indiana community.

The restaurant, located at 701 Philadelphia Street, is open from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
