Anthropology Department professor Francis Allard recently spent one month in China and Vietnam carrying out archaeological research, giving presentations, and overseeing the running of an international conference.

The topics covered by the research and five presentations (given at one museum, two universities, and two conferences), included the compositional analysis of early bronzes in northern Vietnam, the emergence of socio-politically complex societies in southern China, the southern expansion of early Chinese empires, and the development of the Maritime Silk route.

Allard also attended and oversaw the meeting of the Society for East Asian Archaeology in Nanjing (China), an international academic association of which he is the president.
