International Overdose Awareness Day, August 31

Posted on 8/24/2018 10:35:59 AM

International Overdose Awareness Day was initiated in 2001 by Sally J. Finn at the Salvation Army in St Kilda, Melbourne. Since 2001, many community members as well as government and non-government organizations have held events to raise awareness and commemorate those who have been lost to drug overdose. Join IUP and the Indiana community in remembering loved ones lost to an overdose and help celebrate the hope in recovery from addiction.

Starting on Tuesday, August 28, and continuing through Friday (weather permitting), ATOD will host an overdose awareness table in the Oak Grove from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

On Friday, August 31, join IUP and the Indiana community at 6:00 p.m. at the IRMC Park in downtown Indiana for the following events:

  • 6:00–7:00 p.m. - Vendor networking and Memorial Tribute opportunities
  • 7:00 p.m. - Speak Out
  • 7:40 p.m. - Walking vigil around downtown Indiana
  • 8:00 p.m. - Closing ceremony

This event is sponsored by MARTI, ATOD, Blairsville Support Group Against Drugs, Blairsville Area Reality Tour, FAVOR-Indiana, and Connect Church recover.
