The IUP Department of Music will host an Alumni Jazz Weekend on November 2–4, 2018. The last alumni jazz weekend was held in 2013 and included graduates spanning seven decades, from the 1950s through 2012.

Events will include a reception at Breezedale Alumni Center on Friday evening, rehearsals during the day on Saturday, followed by attendance at an evening performance presented by the IUP Jazz Band and Jazz Ensemble, and a performance on Sunday afternoon.
The featured alumnus for the weekend will be Joshua Hillard (BSEd ’01). Hillard is employed by the Altoona Area School District, where he teaches elementary band and general music and directs the Elementary Jazz Band. He also teaches Jazz History
at Penn State at the satellite PSU Altoona campus. His performance and recording credits include Blue Moon Big Band, Keystone Winds, Jazz in Your Face, Zeropoint Big Band, Altoona Symphony, Johnstown Symphony, and Blair County Brassworks.
maintains an active private trumpet studio where his students have gone on to be all-state musicians, music educators, military band members, and successful freelance performers.
He will perform in a concert with the IUP Jazz Band and Jazz Ensemble

The Alumni Jazz Band will perform in Fisher Auditorium at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 4. The music of John Morris will be featured. Morris graduated from IUP in 1966 and later taught in the IUP Department of Music. He also directed the Johnstown Jazz
Workshop and wrote and arranged hundreds of compositions during his career. A collection of Morris’s music was donated to the Department of Music recently by his brother, Ralph.
