Join the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Department of Music as
they continue their Sound Choices series with a performance from the Keystone
Chamber Winds on Thursday, October 25, at 8:00 p.m. in Gorell Recital Hall, located
on the second floor of Sutton Hall.
This Keystone Chamber Winds is composed of a mix of faculty from
IUP’s Department of Music, current students, and alumni. Jason Worzbyt, the conductor of the Keystone
Chamber Winds, is a professor of Bassoon and the associate director of Bands
at IUP. Giving some background on what
makes this performance group unique, Worzbyt shared, “This ensemble was founded
in 2006 by our Director of Band Emeritus, Jack Stamp. The purpose was to perform literature for
smaller ensembles using a mix of faculty and students. Not only do the faculty enjoy performing this
music together, it is also a powerful teaching tool for our current students to
sit by their teachers.”
The evening will begin with two pieces that feature the brass
ensemble: “Vienna Philharmonic Fanfare” by Richard Strauss, and “O Magnum, Mysterium”
by Morten Lauridsen. The rest of the
program will include a mixture of both woodwind and brass with such works as “Serendade
No. 1” by Vincent Persichetti, “Double Wind Quintet” by Alfred Reed, and “Serenade
No. 10 ‘Gran Partita’ in Bb” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
