Patrick Cone, Jessica Jones, and Bridget Scanga came in second place in this year’s Radical Dash Competition at the Joint Mathematics Meetings in Baltimore, Maryland. The Joint Mathematics Meetings are one of the largest meetings of mathematicians in the world, and this year there were around 6,000 mathematicians in attendance from around the world.

The Radical Dash is a multi-day scavenger hunt for teams of undergraduates, filled with math challenges and creative activities. This team competition is a mix of solving mathematics problems and illustrating mathematical concepts (with the visualizations being posted on Instagram). The team from IUP called themselves “Charlie’s Angles,” and they received second place in the competition.

Patrick is a mathematics and communications media major from Pittsburgh. Jessica is an applied mathematics and art studio major from South Park, Pennsylvania. Bridget is a secondary mathematics education major from Bel Air, Maryland.
