this summer between IUP Athletics and the Department of Food and Nutrition has created a new fueling station for student athletes.
Nicole Dann-Payne, MS, RDN, CSSD, LDN, CHWC, an instructor in the Department of Food and Nutrition, is the faculty coordinator for the Sports Performance Nutrition Services (SPNS). This service, staffed by undergraduate and graduate nutrition students, provides nutrition education and counseling to student athletes, showcasing the
the connection between athletics and academics.
The fueling station will provide additional hands-on experience for students. Athletes can be assured that they are adequately fueled either pre- or post-training
with foods such as fruits, pretzels, low-fat granola bars, chocolate milk, or tart cherry juice.
When asked about the fueling station, Dann-Payne stated that this is “truly a win-win opportunity for IUP athletes and IUP students of the Department of Food and Nutrition! Our SPNS team is looking forward to assisting and educating IUP athletes with
their fueling habits to help them become the best athlete they can be.”
