In recognition of Banned Books Week, the IUP Libraries is hosting two community events.
On Wednesday, September 25, 2019, from noon to 1:00 p.m. in Stapleton Library’s Java City area, there will be the annual Banned Book Readout. During this time, please visit the library for food, prizes, and an opportunity (if you choose) to read from your favorite banned book. Feel free to bring your own reading, or choose from a selection of books that will be available at the event. If you don’t feel like reading, just come to hear excerpts from well-known banned titles, and join us in celebrating our freedom to read.
On Thursday, September 26, 2019, from noon to 1:00 p.m. in Stapleton Library’s Java City area, there will be a Banned Book Roundtable Discussion. Graduate students from the English Department will read selections from banned books from various times and cultures and comment upon their intersections and significance. After the readings and commentary, participants are invited to ask questions or share their thoughts. Please join us for a deeper dive into this challenged literature.
These events are sponsored by the IUP Libraries, the IUP English Graduate Organization, and the IUP English Department.
