Hsiao Presents on Teaching Nutrition to Generation Z at National Food and Nutrition Conference

Hsiao with current students, dietetic interns, and recent IUP alumni at a networking dinner held at FNCE 2019IUP Department of Food and Nutrition professor Pao Ying Hsiao and Bowling Green State University professor Mary-Jon Ludy presented “Move Over Millennials: What Generation Z expects from Dietetics Education” at the 2019 Food and Nutrition Conference and Expo in Philadelphia.

In this talk on October 27, 2019, Hsiao and Ludy presented background on the motivations and learning preferences of Generation Z and provided information about their use of digital learning tools to engage current students when teaching about nutrition. Specifically, Hsiao presented information about how she uses infographics, Instagram, and Flipgrid to engage current students in learning.

Additionally, 21 students (nine undergraduates and twelve dietetic interns) also attended the Food and Nutrition Conference and Expo 2019 along with Hsiao. Students had the opportunity to attend educational sessions, network with nutrition professionals, attend the dietetic internship fair, and sample hundreds of food samples on the expo floor.
