IUP to Host National Association of Teachers of Singing Conference

The IUP Department of Music is proud to serve as host for the 2009 National Association of Teachers of Singing Eastern Region Conference on April 2–4. The conference provides an opportunity for students to perform for teachers from different institutions and receive written feedback and awards throughout three rounds of competition. The Eastern Region is composed of schools from Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, West Virginia, Delaware, and the province of Quebec. The conference will feature a guest artist recital on April 3 at 7:30 p.m. in Gorell Recital Hall by soprano Jennifer Trost and pianist Arlene Shrut which is free and open to the public. There will be master classes taught by Dr. Jerrold Pope (Boston University) and Dr. Mary Logan Hastings (IUP) as well as workshops presented by IUP professors Robert Gretta and Joan Van Dyke. The auditions coordinator is Robert Peavler, who is being assisted in hosting this event by IUP voice faculty members Sarah Mantel and Mary Logan Hastings.
