Several IUP Department of Music faculty members will be making presentations or performing at the annual PMEA Inservice Conference, held this year at the Valley Forge Convention Center on April 24 and 25, 2009.
Dr. Laura Ferguson will be making two presentations: “Using Wiki Websites for Special Education University Methods Courses” on Friday morning, April 24; and “So Your Chapter Wants to Hold a PMEA Event” on Saturday morning, April 25. The Friday session will discuss Dr. Ferguson’s use of Wiki websites to increase information covered in her Education Methods class by using blogs. The Saturday session will explain the steps needed to host PMEA events and is based on Dr. Ferguson’s experience as host of this year’s PMEA Elementary/Middle School Bandfest.
Dr. Linda Jennings will present a workshop on “The String Project: Addressing the Crisis in String Education Today.” This workshop introduces a powerful teacher-training program that Dr. Jennings is using at IUP to mentor young string teachers.
Both Dr. Jennings, cellist, and Dr. Stanley Chepaitis, violinist, will perform solos with the IUP Orchestra under the direction of Dr. David Martynuik at their performance on Friday, April 24.
The PMEA Inservice Conference is an annual event that attracts over one thousand music educators from across the state and features performances of high school and college ensembles chosen from dozens of applicants every year.
