IUP will be the host site for the PASSHE Social Equity and Human Resources videoconference training on Tuesday, September 15, 2009.

September's training will be lead by Dr. Rita Drapkin from IUP and her colleague, Malinda Cowles. The program will consist of three hours of training on the Safe Zone program. Safe Zone is a program where members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgendered, Questioning, and Allied (LGBTQA) community receive support from and work together with supporters, friends, and allies that are readily identified.

This training, presented by two of the founders of IUP's Safe Zone program, will cover some of the following topics: how Safe Zone programs relate to the work of Human Resources and Social Equity, what Safe Zone programs across PASSHE look like, terminology and use of language when dealing with LGBT populations, paradigm of gender and sexuality, resources, and how you can help by receiving training to be recognized as a Safe Zone participant on your campus. The intent of this program is to provide a broad overview of, not only Safe Zone, but also basic GLBTQA issues.
