Chris Wengert (MM 2007, Percussion GA, and, if you recall, “drumset and bucket” fame) is on tour with a Coca-Cola-sponsored musical group with the Olympic Torch as it makes its way all over Canada.
Chris, a student of IUP Music Department faculty member Dr. Michael Kingan, has been living in New York City for about a year taking a stab at a performing career. He’s picked up some playing opportunities and is breaking into the scene slowly, doing some substitute teaching to help pay bills. Recently though, he played a successful audition with a production company, the same company that handles groups like Stomp and the Blue Man Group. He was selected as a percussionist to perform with a touring company and go out on a fifteen-week tour starting in mid-November 2009, performing throughout Canada.
One of the scheduled performances will be the Torch Lighting Ceremony at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. Interestingly enough, his audition consisted of performing on drum set and (get this) a bucket.
