Dr. Gregory Ferrence (’91), an alumnus of the IUP Department of Chemistry, was named Illinois’ Professor of the Year for 2009.
Dr. Ferrence, an Indiana, Pa., native, received his doctorate at Purdue University in 1996, followed by postdoctoral work at the University of Alberta and Los Alamos National Laboratory. He currently teaches at Illinois State University in the Chemistry department.
Each year, the U.S. Professors of the Year Program recognizes one undergraduate instructor from each state for their excellence in teaching and mentoring. The award program is sponsored by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education and the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.
