The Four of Harps ensemble—made up of three college students and their teacher, IUP Music Department member Lucy Scandrett—will present a concert Saturday, April 10, 2010, at 4:00 p.m. in Cogswell Hall, Room 126 (the Music Theater rehearsal room). A reception will follow.
Although all study with Scandrett, each attends a different school where Scandrett teaches. Jacqueline Gordon is a sophomore Elementary Education major with a minor in Music at IUP; Cristina Kruk is a sophomore at Geneva College majoring in human services with a double minor in music and psychology; and Emily Baroody is a freshman music therapy major at Seton Hill College.
Also performing on the program will be La Petite Ensemble. This ensemble is composed of four young harpists from Indiana who also study with Scandrett. The members of the La Petite Ensemble are Maggie Conjelko (seven), Katarina McCaffrey (seven), Jenna Monteleone (eight), and Ceci Sherwood (seven), daughter of IUP faculty members Dawn Marie Smith-Sherwood and Kenneth Sherwood.
Lucy Scandrett is an active teacher and performer in the Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania area. In addition to the colleges above, she teaches at Chatham University, the Creative and Performing Arts High School in Pittsburgh, Ellis Academy, and Musik Innovations.
For many years, Scandrett was the principal harpist for the Pittsburgh Opera, Pittsburgh Ballet, and Civic Light Opera orchestras as well as the Westmoreland, McKeesport, and Johnstown Symphony orchestras. She is very active in the American Harp Society and presently serves as the national president.
