How to Get Out of Academic Probation and Stay Out!

A description of the missteps leading into academic probation and the steps out of academic probation from the perspective of a former probationary student who graduated with honors and is now in graduate school. Tips on how to stay out of academic probation will also be discussed.

Bien Educado/a vs. Well Educated

The meaning of “Well Educated” is discussed with an emphasis on the cultural differences that influence minorities in their choice of post-secondary education and career choices. Reasons for staying in college and going on to graduate school and the implications for family will be discussed.


The experiences of various influential Latina leaders will be introduced with a focus on their skills and strategies for overcoming obstacles. Tips on how to be a leader will be included, together with a discussion covering the importance of networking and joining national organizations.


A walk through the processes of completing important documents for financial aid, such as FAFSA, direct deposit forms, and scholarships. The functions of the IUP Bursar’s Office, Financial Aid, and the Registrar’s Office will be included, together with tips on how to manage your financial aid money, such as paying for books and paying back loans.


Students will be shown the intricacies of how to write a good resume and cover letter and how to update and tweak them. There will also be a brief overview of how to search for internships.
