Autism: A Multidisciplinary Perspective on Assessment, Treatment, and Education

    Autism Spectrum Disorders are a collection of developmental disorders that are first identified in early childhood, persist throughout the lifespan, and involve impairments in multiple domains of functioning, including social interaction, communication, and behavior. One in 110 children are diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder, so professionals who work with children, including social workers, school counselors, psychologists, early childhood specialists, and teachers, are increasingly encountering children on the spectrum in their work, and the need to be aware of and understand these disorders is growing. Our interdisciplinary panel will review the latest research in the identification and assessment of Autism Spectrum Disorders, as well as the treatments and educational interventions that are available to children with these disorders. Join us to learn about Autism Spectrum Disorders from the perspective of psychology, education, and speech-language pathology, as it takes a team of individuals in multiple disciplines to provide these children with the best chance of maximizing their developmental potential.
