Associate Professor Diane Shinberg presented a paper at the annual meeting of the Population Association of America in Columbus, OH, on April 18, 2024. Her paper, "Disability Demography: Questioning the (In)Visibility of Population Variables," identifies limits in the demographic conceptualization of disability.

Shinberg calls for more inclusive research approaches that better integrate aging-with-disability among younger adults and adolescents. Across population and social sciences, disability status should be measured as a core demographic variable.

Shinberg's paper was presented in a session on Critical Demographic Methods.
