The first day of classes
is often the first opportunity for an instructor to connect with their students. It can lay the groundwork for
semester long connections and engaged students. What
do faculty professional development experts suggest are critical for initial
class sessions? To what resources can IUP faculty turn to discover new
activities to engage students in a positive way? What do your colleagues do on
the first day that has worked well for them?
In this interactive
session, faculty will consider what is essential for the first day of classes and share
their own best practices for starting the semester off well.
Participants can expect
to leave the session with new ideas and new contacts to foster excitement about
teaching all year.
