This is part of #EberlyAmazingStudents, a series from the IUP Eberly College of Business and Information Technology that focuses on students who are involved in a variety of extra-curricular activities.
Angelina Manning is an active member of Alpha Gamma Delta here on campus and is a finance major in Eberly. "I chose to attend IUP because, when I went on my first tour, the campus felt like home. IUP was one of my top choices to attend because it's business school. I enjoyed business classes throughout high school, and when I heard what Eberly College of Business had to offer, I was sold," explained Manning.
Angelina is from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, specifically Thomas Jefferson, which is located in the South Hills. She heard about IUP from IUP graduates in her area who have current jobs in the business field and that are friends with Angelina's parents. She can always find someone back home that attended IUP. Also, a lot of students her age came to IUP especially for business and education.
Eberly has helped Angelina to grow so much as a business student. She said that her professors and classes have prepared her for future jobs and interviews. In the finance field, she had the opportunity to get her Bloomberg certifications, and she feels that this will put her a step ahead of other candidates in her future career.
Angelina said, "I wanted to be a part of more at IUP than just attending classes. Throughout high school I was always a part of a team, and coming to college, I missed that aspect. My sophomore year I decided that I wanted to join a group that helps people in need and has a purpose. I decided to be a part of Greek life and join Alpha Gamma Delta. AGD is a sorority that is a part of the Greek community at IUP, and our philanthropy is to fight world hunger. Through this process I have made so many great friends that now feel like family."
Alpha Gamma Delta taught Angelina how to be able to share her opinions and be an effective team player. It has also shown her how to get involved and be an active member in her community. She has enhanced her leadership skills and learned how to network and make connections that could benefit her in the future.
"My core values include teamwork, leadership, and responsibility. I believe to be successful you need to be able to take a leadership position when needed. A good leader will always do what is best for their team and take everyone's opinions into consideration. Also, you need to be able to take responsibility, be organized, and do your part to complete your work. Someone could always be counting on your skills and answers to complete a job. Being a team player and engaging in problem solving is also very important to me.I like when my answers are perfect, so if a team is all working on a project together, everyone can give input on my part of the project. Ideas become more complex and diverse when working in a team," explained Manning.
