On July 26, 2023, Meeting Professionals International Pittsburgh Chapter hosted its officers, members, and industry friends at the new Pittsburgh Brewing Company facility in Creighton, PA. Eberly College’s own Nicole Buse is on the board of the Pittsburgh Chapter of MPI and manages the IUP student chapter. Nicole’s co-workers Stephen Shiring and Chef Jeffrey Santicola were also in attendance.
Their tour guide was recent IUP graduate Jared Swansboro (photo below), who was enjoying his summer job at the brewery before moving on to law school. Billed as a networking event, alumni from the Hotel, Restaurant, Tourism, and Event Management program were on hand to catch up with their former faculty members and recruit current students for internships and employment. It was great to see Hospitality alumni Irene Huse, executive meeting manager, Oaklander Hotel, Pittsburgh, PA; Amber Harkleroad, sales manager, Sheraton Pittsburgh Hotel at Station Square; and Stephanie Adams-Montavon, senior catering sales manager, TRYP by Wyndham, Pittsburgh, PA.
Housed in the old and beautifully refurbished PPG building along the Allegheny River. Pittsburgh Brewing Company has breathed life into this empty manufacturing plant.
Pittsburgh Brewing Company also secured another Pittsburgh favorite, Common Plea Catering, as their caterer for events such as the inaugural tour of the brewery hosted by MPI Pittsburgh. Common Plea Catering and Pittsburgh Brewing Company will manage events of a variety of sizes inside the impressive brewery or outside as they work to complete their live band stage and party venue. These new additions behind the brewery will be followed by an onsite restaurant and marina.
Pittsburgh Brewing Company has a six-year plan to complete what will surely become a favored attraction for meeting planners, weddings, music, and beer lovers in the Pittsburgh region.
Take a tour when you can and learn more about the history of this local brewery with state-of-the-art equipment, and with space to enjoy a cold one!
