EMT Training Program

This program is primarily designed for future EMS personnel, but is appropriate for anyone who may respond to emergencies, including fire/rescue personnel, nurses, coaches, athletic trainers, safety professionals, and others.

Imagine Your Future

Participants who successfully complete this program are eligible to take National Registry of EMTs certification exams for Pennsylvania and national certification as an EMT.

Classes and Requirements

Course includes classroom, skill, and field sessions. Students must meet minimum physical capabilities according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health. In addition to scheduled dates, students must complete National Incident Management System (NIMS) 100/700 courses through free online modules.

*Students must also complete 10 patient contacts at an approved site, which will require up-to-date immunizations/TB test, criminal clearances, and HIPPA Training through Castle Branch as well as student malpractice insurance through HPSO.

College Credit for IUP Students

IUP students who successfully complete the EMT course at IUP are eligible for up to four transfer credits through the department of Kinesiology, Health, and Sport Science. For more information, see the EMT Credit Transfer Agreement.

The EMT Training Program is a ‘clock hour' certificate program. Students who complete an EMT certificate with IUP, may be able to utilize the ‘credit hour' transfer agreement for the four credit-hours.

The certificate program is ineligible for federal financial aid. This means that current undergraduate/graduate students enrolled in a credit-hour degree program cannot utilize the certificate clock hours to meet financial aid (including scholarship) eligibility requirements. Nor will the EMT certificate clock hours be eligible for federal, state or institutional financial aid. Students considering concurrent enrollment in both the EMT certificate and a degree programs should contact the Office of Financial Aid to inquire how this decision may impact their financial aid awards.
