Anthropology professor Victor Garcia and IUP Anthropology and Spanish alumna Katherine Fox have published an article in Practicing Anthropology.
The article, "Social distancing and ethnography: Strategies for social contact with Latino diasporic populations and interviewing during COVID-19" (2021), draws on the challenges that Garcia and Fox encountered while conducting their own ethnographic research with Latinx populations during the pandemic.
The article identifies difficulties and makes recommendations for overcoming them. Fox, an alumna of IUP's Anthropology and Spanish departments and now a PhD Candidate at Southern Methodist University, teaches a variety of courses in anthropology and global health as an adjunct faculty member at Baylor University and Texas Christian University.
Fox is writing her dissertation on the well-being and resilience of LGBTQ+ Latinx immigrant populations. Her other research interests include health decision-making among marginalized groups and the intersections of social media and health behavior. Fox graduated from IUP in 2013, and Garcia was her academic advisor in the department.
