Kevin Patrick and John Benhart, of the Anthropology, Geospatial and Earth Sciences Department, attended the National Association of American Geographers conference in March 2025. The Detroit, Michigan, conference attracted thousands of academic and professional geographers from all over the globe.
Benhart presented research he conducted with geography graduate student Joece Ann Lynn and participated in an all-day workshop on geographic information systems and the use of uncrewed aerial systems (drones) to collect environmental data.
Patrick presented research related to his book, Near Woods; A Year in an Allegheny Forest. The Association of American Geographers chose Near Woods for its 2023 John B. Jackson Prize, an annual peer-reviewed award presented to the author of books published “about the United States which convey the insights of professional geography in language that is interesting and attractive to a lay audience.”
