The IUP Lively Arts Ovations series will be presenting the River City Brass Ensemble for one night only on Friday, February 7, at 8:00 p.m. Their performance, “Brasstacular” will take place on the campus of Indiana University of Pennsylvania in Fisher Auditorium in the Performing Arts Center.
Founded in 1981 by the late Robert Bernat (conductor and music director 1981-94), the River City Brass was the first professional concert band to be established in the United States in over 25 years. Today, River City Brass performs a 35-concert series in Western Pennsylvania under the skillful baton of James Gourlay.
Often called the “Boston Pops - In Brass,” River City Brass won the 2018 Readers' Choice Gold Award for Family Entertainment from Trib Total Media. The concert will include a bit of Broadway and the hits of Hollywood. Also joining the River City Brass on select numbers will be students from the IUP Brass Ensemble (directed by Christian Dickinson).
