The IUP Career and Professional Development Center’s Career Game Plan is a tool in its thirteenth year of implementation. The primary objective of the Career Game Plan is to provide a checklist or guide for career preparation and management for students to use while at IUP and for graduates to use in the professional world.

Too often we hear that students don’t know the purpose of the Career and Professional Development Center and that alumni aren’t aware of our services. The CPDC’s mission states that we provide opportunities for the IUP community and external partners to build relationships and collaborate so that students, alumni, and other stakeholders can achieve their professional or organizational goals. Ultimately, we’re here to assist students and alumni with their career goals and help them find their success as they define it.

Taylor Serrano, a junior at IUP majoring in computer science software engineering and minoring in mathematics, shares why taking advantage of the services provided by the CPDC was part of her career success:

I transferred to IUP my sophomore year of college to continue my academic and soccer career. One of the best things about IUP has been the available campus resources. One of the most beneficial resources for me has been the CPDC. I was exposed to so many opportunities for internships, networking, and etiquette classes to enhance my knowledge for future experiences. A vivid experience I remember is reaching out to Ms. Thompson for help with preparing for an interview for a summer internship. I had never had an interview for an internship, and I left my meeting with Ms. Thompson feeling well prepared and confident in how to be a standout candidate. I did receive that internship and had the best experience! The CPDC is one of the most important resources, and I hope other students take advantage of this resource in college! Thank you, CPDC for opening doors of opportunity!
