Machining instructor and student

The Center for Career and Technical Personnel Preparation offers professional certificate and degree programs that prepare career and technical teachers and administrators to receive required state certifications.

In Pennsylvania, candidates receive career and technical professional certification by completing an approved education program offered through one of three regional Professional Personnel Development centers. The centers at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Penn State University, and Temple University are each approved and funded by the Pennsylvania Department of Education to provide services to certification candidates in their region.

The following programs are offered by the Center and include both field-based and classroom-based instruction. IUP faculty members travel to career and technical schools to help teachers and administrators progress through their programs.

Occupational Competency Assessment

The Occupational Competency Assessment verifies that teacher certification candidates possess the occupational knowledge and skills that are required to be eligible for an instructional certificate. IUP is authorized by PDE to administer the OCA in Western Pennsylvania.
