Congratulations the newest Giniewicz Scholar.

Simon Andrew Accamando (Phys/Pre-Eng) is the newest awardee of the Jayne Giniewicz Memorial Scholarship.

The Jayne Giniewicz Memorial Scholarship shall provide scholarship awards for Physics and Pre-Engineering students within the Madia Department of Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physics, and Engineering. Awards are based upon students'  GPA and recognition of service within the Department of Physics.

About Jayne R. Giniewicz: a native New Englander earned her bachelor's degree from Wheaton College in 1982, and from Pennsylvania State University, her master's in 1985 and her doctor of philosophy in solid-state science in 1991. In 1987, Jayne was a visiting researcher at Sophia University in Tokyo, Japan where she participated in developing components for high-resolution projection video technology. She continued her work in solid-state science at the University of Pennsylvania until 1992 when she came to Indiana University of Pennsylvania as an Assistant Professor, her first professional position for which teaching was the major component. Throughout her years at IUP, Jayne was recognized for the excellent quality of her teaching. She mainly taught upper-level undergraduate physics courses and laboratories. During this time, she continued her research and collaborations with colleagues at the University of Pennsylvania and Sophia University culminating in a co-authored text entitled "Micromechantronics," about micro-electro-mechanical systems. The love for her family was an integral part of Jayne's life and helped lead to her decision to leave IUP to move back to New England in 2003. She dedicated her life to teaching and learning. Her sense of humor and excitement for understanding physics was contagious and inspired many. Jayne contributed much to the teaching of physics and enriched all of our lives in her short time on Earth but, tragically, and unexpectedly was taken from us in September of 2003 after only a brief stay at her new home in Massachusetts.
