Creating College Success

  • Creating College Success is an early-entrance freshman experience for first-year students sponsored by the Department of Undergraduate Studies and Student Success* and scheduled during the week before fall semester.

The experience includes enrollment in the one-credit course Creating College Success (UGSS 281), workshops, and other informational and social activities. Students also have the option of enrolling in Strategies for Success in Math (MATH 150).

Many times, students experience difficulties adjusting to college. People may have already told you, “College is not like high school!” But what is college like? Are you nervous about where to go and what to do? Do you wonder what classes will be like? Do you know how to be successful in college?

Studies show that when students are given an early, formal introduction to college, they are more likely to experience satisfaction and to graduate. Colleges and universities often offer seminars to students during the freshman year, when students especially need support, knowledge, and skills.

IUP is offering a pre-college program to a limited number of first-year students through the Department of Undergraduate Studies and Student Success*. The program is called Creating College Success and is designed to help you make a satisfactory transition to the college experience and to enhance your chances for academic success.
