The President's Commission on Diversity and Inclusion joins the country in welcoming our 46th President of the United States. The commission would like to highlight the significance of this event as it affects IUP. We feel a sense of hope for all marginalized people as we watch the intentional selection of experienced and uniquely qualified individuals who are representative of the fabric of this country. An example of this is the elevation of Pennsylvania's own Rachel Levine to assistant secretary-designate for Health in recognition of her efforts to combat COVID-19.
Please join us in celebrating the new leadership that will bring the diversity of voices of our African American, Latino/Latinx/Hispanic, LGBTQIA+, Indigenous Peoples/Native Americans, and others to share in the governance of the nation.
We also celebrate the new administration's decision revoking the discriminatory travel ban and restoring disability access to the government websites. We find these developments encouraging and applaud the Executive Order on Preventing and Combating Discrimination on the Basis of Gender Identity or Sexual Orientation and the Executive Order on Advancing Racial Equity and Support for Underserved Communities through the Federal Government. We recognize the impact of these changes in policy have on our students, our campus, and the larger community. We are heartened by the decisive actions of the new administration in taking steps to address longstanding systemic racism, discrimination, and inequity in the country.
