Collaborate with Professors Who are on the Forefront of Foreign Language Teaching in the United States
Learning a foreign language is not really a part-time or class-only proposition. Our foreign language professors understand this, which is why you shouldn't be surprised if you are at a coffee shop and one of them engages you in French.
Our faculty members believe in collaboration with their students, and if that means working with them outside the classroom, they do it. They want you to succeed in your mastery of your chosen foreign language.
IUP faculty have a long tradition of national leadership in foreign languages. We have had two faculty members serve as president of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages, our national foreign language association dedicated to the improvement and expansion of the teaching and learning of all languages at all levels of instruction.
Being in the forefront means understanding the role technology plays in communication. If social media improves your proficiency, then our faculty will embrace it. Our professors do believe that personal interaction is still the best way to learn languages, which is why we've continued to exclusively offer face-to-face courses rather than online instruction.
