Centers and Institutes within the College of Health and Human Services

  • The College of Health and Human Services has a variety of academic centers and institutes. They draw on expertise from across the university on specialized or interdisciplinary issues.

    Center for Sport Science Research and Education
    The center serves IUP and the surrounding community in providing lifestyle interventions through disease and health education programs, personalized fitness/health screenings and assessment, and educational and research opportunities.

    Center for Research in Criminology
    Conducts and promotes scholarly research in criminology and criminal justice

    Criminal Justice Training Center
    The Criminal Justice Training Center prepares individuals for entry into law enforcement, provides in-service training to current law enforcement personnel, provides preparation and mandatory recertification of lethal weapons training for security personnel, and prepares individuals for certification and recertification as Pennsylvania State Constables. It boasts a full-time police training academy on the IUP main campus and seven regional part-time academy sites.

    Institute for Rural Health and Safety
    The Institute for Rural Health and Safety brings together university personnel from various disciplines and professional backgrounds to solve problems related to highway traffic safety. It provides driver education and improvement programs and first responder and emergency response team training.

    Pennsylvania/OSHA Consultation Center
    Since 1983, IUP’s Safety Sciences Department has been the officially designated agency in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for providing occupational and health consultative services made available through federal regulations (29 CFR 1908). The center helps private-sector employers understand and voluntarily comply with safety/health regulations promulgated/enforced by the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). It offers a variety of services at no cost to private sector Pennsylvania employers.
