Karen Scarton, associate professor in the Interior Design program within the Department of Human Development, Fashion, and Interior Design, was recognized at the College of Health and Human Services' thirty-firstannual awardsrecognition ceremony, held virtuallyon May 5, 2021.

Please join us in congratulating Karen as the recipient of the 2020-21 Outstanding Teacher Award.

Implementing problem-based learning strategies into her classroom, students gain the knowledge and skills required by investigating and working on client-based design projects. Complementing the Interior Design experience, Scarton has escorted students to the Kitchen and Bath Industry Show, Chicago, and to the world's largest residential design show held at High Point Market, High Point, North Carolina. Using tours of historic mansions in New York City, Gettysburg, and Colonial Williamsburg, she uses these residential homes to reinforce interior design concepts. She approaches her instruction in the way her students will approach their profession: "Hands-On."

Congratulations, Karen, on receiving this year's CHHS Outstanding Teacher Award!
