Faculty-in-Residence Program

  • The Faculty-in-Residence program is sponsored by the Office of Residence Life and the Office of Housing and Dining. The program houses professors in residence halls to encourage interactions between faculty members and undergraduate students beyond the classroom and laboratory. The Faculty-in-Residence serves as a mentor, advisor, advocate, and facilitator to lead the development of an academic focus for a residential community in partnership with the Residence Life staff.

    Eligibility

    The Faculty-in-Residence position must meet the below minimum qualifications:

    • Be a tenured or tenure-track faculty member at IUP
    • Commit to serve in this role for AY 2020–21
    • Successfully pass a background check
    • Able to live in an on-campus housing provided by the Office of Residence Life

    Expectations

    Expectations for the Faculty-in-Residence include:

    • Be present in the community
    • Build relationships with students to become a role model and academic mentor to those who seek such relationships
    • Create academic environment supported by the residence life staff to promote holistic learning
    • Serve as a resource to the residence life team
    • Other administrative responsibilities

    Benefits

    In return for the Faculty-in-Residence service, the Office of Residence Life will provide the following:

    • Live-in accommodations (two-bedroom suite, including all utilities)
    • Access to cooking facilities, or a meal plan to be used in the residential dining facilities
    • Allocated programming funds as available
    • Office space
    • Permissive pet policy
    • Family members of Faculty-in-Residence to include partner and minor child(ren) are welcome in the community as space allows

Priority deadline for application is May 10, 2020. Applications received by this date are given first consideration. The positions will remain open until filled.
