Giant Eagle Pharmacy will be on campus to administer flu and COVID vaccinations to the IUP Community on September 10 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the HUB's Allegheny Room.

Faculty, Managers, Coaches, OPEIU, POA and SPFPA employees and their covered dependents enrolled in the Highmark PPO can receive a free flu vaccine by presenting their Highmark member ID card at the onsite clinic. This also includes Highmark members covered under an unrelated employer plan. For UPMC HMO members, free flu shots are available at the onsite clinic or from any Giant Eagle, Rite Aid, Giant Food Stores, and Martin’s Food Markets pharmacies by submitting your UPMC member ID card. If you choose another pharmacy, you may be required to pay at the time the shot is given and then submit a receipt for reimbursement form to UPMC.

Members should confirm that their pharmacy participates with Highmark for flu shots.

AFSCME, SCUPA, and SEIU employees and their covered dependents enrolled in a PEBTF health plan, both PPOs and all HMOs, can receive a free flu vaccine by presenting their CVS/Caremark RX ID card for this service, not their Highmark card. (If a Highmark PEBTF member accidentally presents their Highmark medical ID card, the benefit will still be provided under the medical plan. The PEBTF has advised us that their preference is for members to use the CVS RX card as the negotiated rate for the flu shot is lower. This also allows all PEBTF HMO members the ability to receive a no-cost flu shot at an on-site event, as all PEBTF members have the same RX plan).

Pharmacies that participate are CVS Caremark Flu Shot network, which includes most chain pharmacies such as Acme, Giant, Giant Eagle, Target, Weis, and Rite Aid, in addition to CVS pharmacies and many independent pharmacies. No appointment is needed. PEBTF members can contact the number on the back of their medical card or prescription card to find participating providers.

To minimize your wait time, you are encouraged to attend the clinic according to the following schedule:

IUP's Health Fair Flu and COVID Vaccine Sign-Up
Walk-ins are accepted.

  • Complete the administration form(s) prior to the clinic. If you or your family member(s) are getting both the flu and the COVID vaccine, then both the flu and COVID administration forms need to be completed.
  • Giant Eagle recommends that employees dress in short-sleeved shirts or loose layers the day of the clinic to make the upper arm easily accessible.
  • Friendly reminder: Giant Eagle is offering $5 in free groceries with every vaccine. The Giant Eagle Advantage card must be presented to scan at the clinic.

Other Opportunities for Receiving Flu Shots

All Highmark members can obtain a no-cost flu shot at any Giant Eagle, CVS, Giant, Rite Aid pharmacy, or many other pharmacy locations. You must present your Highmark member ID card. Members should confirm that their pharmacy participates with Highmark for flu shots. No appointment is needed—the member must present their Highmark member ID card or, if a PEBTF member, their CVS/Caremark Rx ID Card. UPMC HMO members can also obtain a flu shot at any other pharmacy and submit a claim form with a receipt to UPMC to get reimbursed.

Highmark and UPMC members of all ages can obtain a free flu shot from their physician; however, an office visit co-payment may apply.
