Matt Vetter (faculty, English Composition and Applied Linguistics) and Krista Speicher Sarraf (PhD candidate in Composition and Applied Linguistics and faculty at West Virginia University) published an article in the journal Interactive Learning Environments.
In "Assessing the Art+Feminism Edit-a-thon for Wikipedia Literacy, Learning Outcomes, and Critical Thinking," Vetter and Speicher Sarraf report on survey data collected after a 2018 IUP event to argue that Art+Feminism Edit-a-thons represent feminist pedagogical interventions that facilitate participants' digital literacy, online source evaluation, and critical thinking, among other outcomes. In providing a theoretical and methodological framework for assessment, their work also supports future research on Edit-a-thons.
The 2018 Edit-a-thon event and accompanying research project began as a class project in Vetter's English 846 course, a doctoral seminar in Digital Rhetoric taught in the spring 2018 semester. Students in this course, including John Andelfinger, Shahla Asadolahi, Jialei Jiang, Danning Liang, and Zeeshan Siddique, all helped to plan and facilitate the event, as well as collaborate on designing and conducting the research component.
