Dawn Smith-Sherwood, Department of Foreign Languages (Spanish), and co-author Mark Darhower (North Carolina State University) recently published their research essay “Bridging the Language-Literature Divide via Integrated Performance Assessments in an Introductory Hispanic Literature Course” in the September 2021 issue of Hispania, the official journal of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese.
Smith-Sherwood, a literary scholar, and Darhower, an applied linguist, continue their cross-disciplinary collaboration, investigating approaches to teaching second language and literary/cultural content. Their forthcoming chapter regarding the use of the IPA in support of differentiated instruction and assessment will appear in the edited collection Rehumanizing the Languages and Literatures Curriculum later this year.
