Cellobration Day Registration

The IUP String Area is hosting an IUP Cellobration Day on Saturday, November 12, featuring guest cellist Janet Anthony and IUP faculty member Linda Jennings. The theme of the Festival is Social Justice through Music – Building Leaders Using Music Education in Haiti. Anthony will share her experiences mentoring music students and teachers in Haiti over the past 30 years.

The festival will take place in Cogswell Hall, Room 121, on November 12 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. The day will include rehearsals of Haitian and traditional cello choir repertoire, informative sessions on cello topics and music programs in Haiti, and a closing concert at 5:00 p.m. including all participants.
All cellists in grades 6–12, university cellists, cello teachers, and community cellists are encouraged to register! The event is in-person with social distancing. The event is free.
The Cellobration Day registration deadline is October 12. Participants will receive more information and music by October 17.
The day will feature Janet Anthony, the first holder of the George and Marjorie Olsen Chandler Professorship of Music at Lawrence University. She recently retired after a 34-year career at Lawrence University where she served for many years as chair of the String Department and where she was a co-recipient of Lawrence University’s annual Faculty Convocation Award.
A founding member and executive director of BLUME Haiti, Anthony works closely with music teachers, students, and school administrators to help improve the pedagogical capacity and to help develop the leadership skills necessary for continued progress.
Founded in 2012 by a group of American and Haitian musicians and professionals with over 50 years of combined experience in Haiti, BLUME Haiti seeks to use the extraordinary impact of music as a tool to change the life trajectory of young Haitians. In collaboration with Haitian and international partners, BLUME Haiti supports over 50 music programs located in all of Haiti’s 10 provinces and serves about 5,000 children.
