This summer, the IUP Music, Theatre, and Dance Department hosted 118 campers for the third annual Summer Music Camp. Camp started on June 10 and ended with a final concert on Saturday morning, June 15. Rising seventh- to 12th-grade students attended as commuters or as residential campers from across Western and Central Pennsylvania.
The camp provided opportunities for students to take private lessons with faculty; perform in the large ensembles of orchestra, band, jazz band, choir, and jazz vocal ensemble; and participate in elective classes, including movement, musical theater, drumming, conducting, deep listening, and guitar/uke. Most importantly, the camp gave students an opportunity to connect with their peers, make music, and fall in love with the IUP campus.
Summer Music Camp would not have been possible without the amazing work of our IUP students who served as counselors, our faculty who taught and led numerous sessions and rehearsals during the week, and our community of parents and students in Indiana and beyond who support this camp as a vital part of their summer experience. This summer's camp was funded entirely by registration fees from those families who value the camp's offerings.
Special thanks to codirectors Zach Collins and Rosemary Engelstad who organize and run the camp on a volunteer basis.
