June, July, and August mean a variety of things to Indiana University of Pennsylvania—summer classes, admissions tours, a variety of summer camps, etc.—not the least of which is one of the best outdoor summer band concerts of the entire summer!
This Saturday, July 13, at 7:00 p.m., the University Band of the IUP Community Music School will present its annual free Concert in the Grove on the patio of Fisher Auditorium.
Under the direction of music professor Jason Worzbyt, this nearly 90-piece ensemble will present a wide variety of selections: Thoughts of Love by Arthur Pryor, Jeremiah Umholtz trombone soloist; music from The King and I by Rodgers and Hammerstein; The Great Escape by Elmer Bernstein; a variety of marches, to include the Dam Busters by Eric Coates, On the Mall by Edwin Franko Goldman, American Red Cross by Louis Panella, and Semper Fidelis and The LIberty Bell by John Philip Sousa; selected movements of Hebrides Suite by Clare Grundman and English Folk Song Suite by R. Vaughan Williams; as well as some Americana selections, America the Beautiful and a Salute to the Armed Forces.
The band is comprised of current IUP students and community members, as well as IUP music alumni who take advantage of the opportunity to return to campus and reconnect with friends and colleagues.
There are some Adirondack chairs in the Oak Grove, but attendees are encouraged to bring their own lawn chair, as well as to come early to enjoy a picnic and beverages, if desired.
