IUP Hosts Uncrewed Aircraft Systems Workshop for High School Teachers

In June, Indiana University of Pennsylvania hosted a workshop on uncrewed aircraft (drones) for teachers in eight area high schools who are teaching the aviation curriculum in their schools. The workshop focused on how teachers can integrate drone education into the curriculum. Teachers represented districts in Allegheny, Clearfield, Indiana, and Westmoreland counties.

IUP Students, Faculty Leave to Conduct Fourth Forensic Archaeology Field School in Germany at Site of World War II Airplane Crash

Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s Anthropology faculty have been selected by the Department of Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency, through the Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine Inc., to continue its field study near Frankfurt, Germany, at the site of a crash of a World War II B-17 airplane.

Thanks to a ninth year of funding from the National Science Foundation and the National Security Agency, Indiana University of Pennsylvania will offer a free, one-week GenCyber cybersecurity camp for middle and high school students.

IUP Distinguished Alumni Award Recipient, NASA Astronaut, Honored with Naming of Cygnus Spacecraft

The late Dr. Patricia Hilliard Robertson, a 1985 graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania and 2000 Distinguished Alumni Award recipient, has been honored with the naming of a Cygnus spacecraft. The naming was announced by Northrop Grumman, the company that built the spacecraft.

IUP to Celebrate Opening of $90-Million John J. and Char Kopchick Hall With Ribbon Cutting Event Nov. 2

Indiana University of Pennsylvania will celebrate the opening of John J. and Char Kopchick Hall, the university’s new $90-million, 142,536-square-foot science and mathematics building, with a ribbon cutting ceremony on November 2 at 4:00 p.m. The event is free and open to the community.

IUP’s Institute for Cybersecurity, in collaboration with the PC4A Project and Information Technology Support Center, will host the sixteenth annual Cybersecurity Day on October 31. This annual event features nationally recognized security experts as well as speakers from government, the security industry, and academia. It is free and open to the community.

When Dr. Deanne Snavely announced her retirement as dean of the John J. and Char Kopchick College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics on June 4, 2021, her friends and colleagues knew they needed to come together to honor Dr. Snavely’s work and tenure at the university.

IUP Council of Trustees Honor Alumni with Naming of Tutoring Room in John J. and Char Kopchick Hall

Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s Council of Trustees today approved a resolution to honor and recognize the contributions of Distinguished Alumni Award Recipient retired Rear Admiral CJ Jaynes with the naming of a room in John J. and Char Kopchick Hall. The tutoring room will be named “The Admiral’s Study” in her honor.

On Thursday, February 18, 2021, from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m. Danielle Wood, assistant professor of media arts and sciences and the Aeronautics and Astronautics Media Lab, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, will give a guest lecture via Zoom titled, “Sustainability in Space and on Earth: Research Initiatives of the Space Enabled Research Group” as part of the Sigma Xi Distinguished Lecturer Series in coordination with the Science Inspires Lecture Series.
