Daniel Shively, a librarian at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, has donated a deed dated 1808 to the IUP Libraries Special Collections and University Archives.
The deed was issued to his great-great-great-grandfather Daniel Shively and is signed by President Thomas Jefferson and future President James Madison. Madison signed the deed as secretary of state. The property was located near Cincinnati.
Shively has been a faculty member in the IUP Libraries since 1963.
The deed is a welcome addition to the IUP Special Collections and University Archives, said Dr. Phillip Zorich, interim dean of the IUP Libraries. The IUP Special Collections and University Archives Department hosts and organizes items related to the history of IUP, Pennsylvania, and rare books.
