Indiana University of Pennsylvania's Music Theater and Theater-by-the-Grove will present “Anything Goes” in the IUP Performing Arts Center's Fisher Auditorium from Feb. 18 to 20 at 7 p.m. and Feb. 21 at 2 p.m.
With music and lyrics by Cole Porter, the musical premiered on Broadway in 1934 and has had major revivals in 1962 and 1987. The productions have won three Tony Awards.
The show is about a love-sick Wall Street broker who stows away on the ship the S.S. American in hopes of winning the heart of his beloved. In addition to its title song, this musical includes “I Get a Kick Out of You,” “You're the Top” and “Friendship.”
“It's fun, it's witty and full of hilariously ridiculous situations,” IUP theater department faculty member and show director Rob Gretta said. “It has mistaken identities and other farcical elements that I am sure will be a big hit with audience members both young and old.
“Because of the size of the space in Fisher Auditorium, the actors are working in a whole different world. All of the design elements and even the choreography and acting style have to be indicative of the time period, which has a nice 1930s campiness to it.”
Tickets for the performance are available in advance at the Hadley Union Building. Tickets are also available online at iuptickets.com or by calling (724) 357-1313. Any remaining tickets will be sold at the door starting at 7:15 p.m.
Tickets cost $15 for regular admission, $13 for seniors and groups of 15 or more, and $9 for all students and children.
