The U.S. Census Road Tour will visit campus Tuesday, March 16, 2010, from noon to 5:00 p.m. at the Hadley Union Building.
On March 15, 2010, every household will receive a census form. Everyone is urged to participate, as it will help shape the future of our country and business community. The tour bus will provide information to students to help them better understand the importance of being counted where they live while attending college, whether it is in a residence hall or an apartment off campus.
Preparations for the 2010 United States Census are under way. The Office of Social Equity and Civic Engagement is the primary contact for the university and has formed a Complete Count Committee.
Committee members are

- Dr. Caleb Finegan, director of the Center for Civic Engagement and Student Leadership
- Michael LeMasters, director of the Office of Housing and Residence Life
- Kate Linder, associate dean of Students, Student Life and Community Engagement
- Barbe Moore, Institutional Research Planning and Assessment
- Jimmy Myers, director of the Office of Social Equity and Civic Engagement
- Alyssa Stiles, Student Government Association
The IUP Complete Count Committee has been working in conjunction with Jeff Raykes, Indiana County Office of Planning and Development chief planner, and John Ramos and Diane Scheetz, 2010 Census advisors, to coordinate a Questionnaire Assistance Center at the university. This center will serve as one of seven centers in Indiana County for people with questions or concerns regarding the census to go for answers. The center will be staffed by a trained member of the U.S. Census Bureau.
An undercount of residents could have a negative impact on our local business coummunity. More than $400 billion in federal funds are awarded to states and communities every year based on census data. The federal government uses census data to allocate funding for programs that impact key infrastructure improvements, road construction, workforce development, and educational programs, in addition to programs for our most vulnerable residents.
