IUP will present its weekly picnics in the Oak Grove on Wednesdays from June 1 through August 3, 2011.

The picnics are open to the community and will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., weather permitting. Cancellations because of inclement weather will be announced on local radio stations and posted on the IUP website.

Picnickers may bring a lunch or purchase one from the Aramark food stations.

Again this year, Aramark is offering one-price buffet lines. One buffet line will feature traditional picnic items including hamburgers, hot dogs, hot pasta, corn on the cob, baked beans, salad, fresh fruit salad, whole fruit, and cookies and other desserts. A “chef's choice” specialty buffet line also will be offered each week. Cost is $5.50 for any buffet, which includes one plate and a beverage.

Representatives from the IUP Health Service will offer free blood-pressure screenings during the picnics throughout the season.

Each week, a different style of recorded music will be played. Contemporary music will be featured June 1, June 29, July 20, and August 3. Special guest for the first picnic is St. Thomas More University Parish.

Members of the IUP Footlight Players theater-for-youth program will perform for Children's Day, July 6, with special events offered for children in attendance. S&T Bank will be the special guest June 15, and the United Way of Indiana County on August 3.

Music from the 1980s will be played June 22, and music from the 1950s and 1960s on July 27.
